The "Lost Gospel" Hype Update

On a recent visit to the Danville Public Library, I was confronted with something that I thought was "old news." Last year I wrote an article entitled "The Lost Gospel Hype" dealing with the media frenzy surrounding the so-called Gospel of Judas. At that time there were new books being released along with news coverage and a two hour documentary on, of all places, The National Geographic Channel. I had thought all this hype over an obviously fictional story surrounding Christ and Judas had … [Read more...]

The Author And Finisher Of Our Faith

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1, 2). We think of Jesus in many ways. Of course we think of Him primarily as … [Read more...]

"Take Heed" For A Balanced Life

People generally desire to have a balanced and stable life. The truth of this is made evident whenever we go to a bookstore or library and see the huge number of, so called, "self-help" books. In nearly all of these books the author gives his advice to the reader for how to acquire a balanced and stable life. People truly desire balance. The Christian also desires a balanced life. The difference between those in the world and the Christian, though, is where they seek the answer to that balance. … [Read more...]

Sound Words

Bible things should be called by Bible names! There are several reasons why we should be careful to only refer to biblical subject in the way the Bible refers to them. Such a practice would help us to keep our discussions of biblical topics in biblical context, it would encourage us to refer to our Bibles to see how a certain thing is referred to, it would go a long way toward helping us to keep our speech pure. We could go on with any number of reasons for calling Bible things by Bible names … [Read more...]

The “Lost Gospel” Hype

"One of the most significant biblical finds of the last century - a lost gospel that could challenge what is believed about the story of Judas and his betrayal of Jesus….Discovered by chance in the 1970s, a document that lay hidden for some 1,700 years, emerges today as The Gospel of Judas." (The National Geographic Channel - from their web site announcing an encore presentation of a two hour documentary about The Gospel of Judas). "With a plot twist worthy of The Da Vinci Code, the gospel - … [Read more...]

Jesus, The Fulfillment Of Prophecy

In Luke 24:13-27, we read of two disciples of Christ on their way to Emmaus. Luke tells us this was the first day of the week (24:1, 13) and that it was the same day that the tomb in which Jesus had been laid following His death was found to be empty (24:3, 13). As they walked they discussed these events. Along the way they encountered what they supposed to be a stranger and discussed these matters with Him. It is obvious from the response Jesus gave to there account that they expressed an … [Read more...]

Are You A Zealot?

In 1 Peter 3:13, Peter makes the statement, “And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?” (NKJ). It is interesting to note that the word translated “followers” here is laterally “Zealot.” The ASV of 1901 translates the verse, “And who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?” A strictly literal translation of this verse would read something like this, “And who the harming you if of the good zealots you become?” Isn’t that interesting, “if of … [Read more...]

Focus, Focus, Focus!

People today are too scattered. They are too busy. Most people are trying to manage several different things at the same time. Our society has become so fast with so many things needing our attention that we often loose sight of the really important things. Even children suffer from our scatter-brained way of living. Children are not taught how to focus but are allowed to do whatever the young mind comes up with. Its normal for a child’s mind to turn from one thing to the next very rapidly, he’s … [Read more...]

WBS Errors & Answers

I encountered this erroneous material, being shipped overseas by World Bible School, while working in India. A young sister attending the services where I was preaching shared the material she had been receiving with me. Upon reading the material I was shocked and horrified at what it contained. I have been careful to cite the material where I read these errors first-hand and to give the biblical answer to these erroneous teaching of World Bible School. I believe that there are many … [Read more...]
